Dave Trampier Thursday - Goblin

For my money Trampier's version of the Goblin is the definitive one. Page 47 of the Advanced Dungeons and Dragons Monster Manual. Every thing about this one is perfect. This screams First Edition to me.

  1. The best WotC could do with 5th edition is simply get the art right. I don't care what they do with the rule system, just look back at Trampier and EO art and come up with some good maps and I would be happy.

    1. I concur Jason. If it had art like you say and some maps I would but it for that alone. I bought 4th edition thinking I might like the art even if I didn't play. Needless to say, I won't make that mistake again.... Oh well, live and learn. I'll be buying Dungeon Crawl Classics mainly for the art and to mine it for ideas.

  2. You're absolutely right...this does scream first edition. DAT was my favorite of the TSR artists. Thanks for putting this up!

  3. You should take a peek at some photos I've posted on an earlier page of my blog, it is of a boxed set of Goblin Raiders from Game Designers Workshop, who later became Games Workshop. Lovely figures on moulded bases, with real character - the type of goblins you'd imagine have stepped right out of the Hobbit.

    1. Mark I'll deathly check those out. Have you seen Otherworld miniatures version of the goblin, it's a dead on copy of Tampier's version. It's a little pricey but it's great.
